Hello Mr Kilian, Your astrology program is fantastic! Although it does not interpret, I think the graphics are excellent! I saved my chart as a PICT file, now can I use another program to select just a part of that picture and have it print out as nicely as Kairon prints? Wishing you good luck, and thanks for the program. Trevor

pict files: Kilian Sternad, 3/23/2001 9:12 pm CET

best use QuarkXPress, you can enlarge prints to ANY size there whith clear cut lines and even use polygonal shapes to get only those parts printed that you actually wish to get printed...;-) but if anybody knows of further applications that will respect kairon's hairlines, i would be most happy to read about that here... unfortunately i have not tested indesign yet and also not newer editions of pagemaker...

moon placement: Bret, 2/28/2001 2:30 am CET

I'm new to astrology and just trying to figure out things, this program is incredible. When I put my info into website Chart generators they produce charts with the moon 9 degrees off of Kairons chart. The rest of the placements for planets are the same. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

moon placement: Kilian Sternad, 2/28/2001 2:56 am CET

you only noticed the aberration of the moon, because the moon is running much faster than the other planets...nine degrees would mean three fourths of a day, a mistake that can have only one reason, and that is a wrong assumption of the universal time to cast the chart. This time is guessed in consequence of the data you enter. Kairon has no city database, nor does it check if daylight savings was on, so there are a few parameters left for you to set, exept the birthdate and birthtime: the location, the timezone and the daylight saving have to be entered in the appropriate parameters. so please, recheck the following items: - timezone - was daylight saving on? and if, how much? - east/west flag (along with the exact degrees) - north/south flag (along with the exact degrees) if all of these parameters you entered are identical with the parameters, that you found on the print of another software, but the chart is not so, please, submit the entire data i have listed above. regards, Kilian

My deepest apologies for wasting your time. Perhaps with Kairon I will be able to figure out how I could be so silly. Thanks again for the Program. Bret

Progressions: Frank Kernase, 11/25/2000 11:03 pm CET

Hi, Can you tell me how you do progressions with Kairon? Thanks. Frank Kernase

Progressions: Kilian, 11/26/2000 4:42 pm CET

...it should be possible by means of the "time machine..."
...this lets you manipulate any parameters in the chart freely and immediately view the results....and also to use or create your own methods of prediction... good luck, Kilian PS: please, let me know if you face any peculiar problems in this matter that can't be solved this way

re latitude & longitude tables: shirdipam, 11/10/2000 1:10 pm CET

I've been looking for a good astrology programme for quite a while. Thanks alot Kilian. Any info on where to download/get a programme of latitude/longitude tables to go along with the Kairon program? Shirdipam

re latitude & longitude tables: Kilian, 11/10/2000 3:26 pm CET

at http://www.astro.ch/ you can draw free online charts and get all infos or if you only want long/lat go to http://www.astro.ch/cgi-bin/atlw3/aq.cgi?lang=e for offline you will get 40000 locations along with a fine astro-shareware at http://www.altairsoftware.com/LAstrologue_US.shtml please, if you find out more, post it here....;-)) Kilian

Thanx! (and one question): Heather Lee, 9/18/2000 0:48 am CET

Kilian, First of all, thanx so much for Kairon. I have just begun studying astrology and it has served me well for the past several months! I'm just wondering what the differences between version 2.17 and 2.19 are? When U get a second, could U let me know. Or if anyone else knows, feel free to jump in. Peace, Heather Lee

Thanx! (and one question): Kilian, 9/18/2000 2:33 am CET

changes of 2.17 have been: 1) time machine will respect entry of mere "ok's" now 2) Algorithm for Personars has been improved 3) Algorithm for Lunars in the Calendar has been improved 4) Kairon has been recompiled with Codewarrior Pro 5 (last Update) changes of 2.18 have been: there was a compilation error for 68k Mac which would disable 68k Macs to read the epehmeris files properly

Subject: Killstar font symbol for aries: Dan, 9/15/2000 2:28 am CET

How do you make the symbol for Aries? I can't find it using the Killstar font in Key Caps????

Killstar font symbol for aries: Kilian, 9/15/2000 9:28 am CET

There are far more symbols that can't be accessed via "KeyCaps", but don't worry, there is a fantastic tool on the web: "Pop Char". You can get it at Tucows, InfoMac or also at http://www.unisoft.co.at/products/popchar.html

Killstar font symbol for aries: Dan, 9/16/2000 2:50 am CET

OK, call me a cheap SOB I would rather not spend $29.00 for a program I'll only use once. Is there any other way to produce the symbol for Aries ???

Killstar font symbol for aries: Kilian, 9/16/2000 8:43 am CET

the app is valid for one month and it spits out the key-combinations of these letters as well...so if you need them only once, it is more than enough...and if popchar has expired and you haven't written them down, well, you can still reinstall the app...;-))

Killstar font symbol for aries: Bill, 9/24/2000 8:21 pm CET

Dan I believe the symbol you are searching for is available through Key Caps. Try HOLDING DOWN THE (Option) Key, and tapping the letter (N) , release both keys, Then HOLD DOWN THE (shift) Key, and tap the Letter (O). This should be the symbol your in search of?

Thanks: Dan, 9/25/2000 0:07 am CET

Thanks Bill, I'm glad I checked back one more time. That is the symbol I need. Glad to see that someone is helpful here!

Hello, I recently downloaded the Kairon 2.19 software and it works great, except that it won't let me print out a chart. I get a memory error message, but even when I allocate double and triple memory values, I get the same message. Does anybody have a solution? Thanks Tom (graphicedge@mindspring.com)

Printing: Kilian, 6/21/2000 9:49 am CET

I can't tell on how many printers Kairon actually prints fine and vice versa, for I don't know, nor do I see a way to ever find out. I could start an enquiry, but it wouldn't change much. Personally I am using an Epson Stylus Photo 750 and before this I had an Epson Stylus Photo and before this I was using a StyleWriter with the Stylewriter II Printer Software from Apple. No matter how hard I tried, I could never get any printing problem with these three printers. (I actually bought the Epson to GET troubles, using a non-apple printer). I had occasion to test Kairon on a Lexmark Laserprinter and also on a LaserWriter II from Apple. No Problems either. Nevertheless I got about 15 emails during the last two years stating that there are printing problems. HP-Printers and one of Apples Color Stylewriters don't seem to work properly with Kairon (which is quite strange, because Apple recommends printing in pict2 format) Kairon is using pict2 format which is only vectors (no bitmaps) and sets the resolution of the printer to the highest value the printer states it can handle. Some printers seem to lie....for the say "send it this way to me" and then they crash because they cannot handle such a high resolution pict2. They seem to have too little memory to calculate all that is required to print out a Kairon-chart....;-(( Future versions of Kairon will no longer rely on the printer driver to create the bitmap but create it themselves and send that to the printer, though this is not how things should be...a printer driver should be able to do its job all by itself...but as some don't, well... There are two good solutions, nevertheless: save your file as a pict and import it into QuarkXPress or print this pict out via simpletext, some versions of simpletext are quite good in this task (and there are really many of them) The best about QuarkXPress is, that you can select parts of the chart as well as you can let text run over it...it gives you full controll. I was told by a Lady of Brazil that the free demo version of QuarkXPress is good enough for this. There are some other applications that can import picts, but you have to see for yourself if they will handle the hairlines or print out all in 1pt lines (which looks really ugly) The old Aldus PageMaker was able to properly import a Kairon pict, too, though it was a little bit difficult to scale it down (but it IS possible) Importing a Kairon Pict into Photoshop is a little bit tricky, but this also works. take care, Kilian PS Your email address seems to be wrong, I was told by the mailer demon that there is no mailbox of the name you stated. I got three or four emails the last two years which I could never reply to because of wrong "reply-to"s, this is really inconvenient...

Printing: Tom Hibbard, 6/21/2000 4:33 pm CET

Kilian, Thanks so much for your quick reply (and your great program). If it's useful information, I have an Epson 1520. I also have Quark Xpress, so I think I'll go that route. Don't know what went wrong with the email, but it is correct above. Thanks again Tom

Printing (Whoops!): Tom Hibbard, 6/21/2000 5:07 pm CET

Kilian, I liked your strategy of using Quark to print out, but Kairon 2.19 won't allow me to save a chart as a PICT file. I'm using a MAC G-3 with OS 8.6 and allocated 10 (and 20) MGs of memory to the program and it still gives me an out of memory error message. The program is still great without the printing function, but if you have any further ideas, I'd like to try them. Thanks again Tom

Printing (Apology!): Tom Hibbard, 6/21/2000 5:18 pm CET

Kilian, So sorry. It now works! The saving as a PICT, the printing , everything. Apparently the increasing the memory did not take. When increased to 10 MGs correctly, it all works. Thanks much! Tom

Printing (Apology!): Dieter Taubert, 8/5/2000 2:44 pm CET

Subject: Positions of planets in transit: Nils Zonneveld, 5/26/2000 10:37 am CET

When you use the transit option of kairon, the transiting planetsare drawn outside the wheel. But where can I find their exact location? The positions written right of the wheel still apply to the planets in the wheel. Thanks in advance. Nils

Positions of planets in transit: Kilian, 5/29/2000 9:42 am CET

U will find the positions in the time-machine... to see how much the aspects are off select "outer" from "View:Aspects-Orbs..." and select "View:View Grid". Please keep in mind that using the transits option will only allow aspects with less than one degree offset, to see more offset U will have to draw a Synastrie between two charts (there is no restriction laid on synastries) Take care Kilian

Missing Ephemeris File: Madeline Carroll, 5/31/2000 3:57 pm CET

Recently I downloaded the Kairon software from the internet site. It's great, but today I got an error message when trying to chart for an event taking place this week. It indicated that ephemeris file LRZ5_17 was missing and was needed for calculation of Jupiter. Can you advise how I can get this file? The "ephemf" folder has six documents: CHI_23, CHI_24, CPJV_23, CPJV_24, LRZ5_23 and LRZ5_24. It also has two empty folders: 1586-1859 and 1859-2132. I have a Mac computer. Thanks, Madeline Carroll

Missing Ephemeris File: Kilian, 5/31/2000 8:30 pm CET

I am so sorry. You must be one of the few who succeeded in downloading version 2.18. It was online only for one week, because the 68k part of it (running on non power macs) does not read in the proper ephemeris file but asks for the files for the year number zero. This doesn't happen on Powermacs with that version, nor has it ever happened with any prior version on non powermacs nor does it happen with version 2.19 on either kind of a macintosh. Please download the new version and forgive the inconvenience which was due to updating my developing environment. Take care, Kilian Under no circumstances try to get the "proper" ephemeris file, this would result in wrong calculations in this case...

Missing Ephemeris File lrz5_24: Jackg, 2/14/2001 9:00 am CET

I have recently downloaded Kairon version 2.19 and was up and running for a short time (PMac G4). I took a break and quit out of the program then re-launched to test daily transits. Suddenly, I'm looking at an error message: "For the Calculation of Jupiter the ephemeris file lrz5_24 has not been found It must be in the "ephemf" folder etc." This read from Jupiter-Neptune, followed by chi_24, cpjv_24 from Chiron-Vesta. I checked the program Ephemf folder and all the missing files where in place!! Whats Up? PS. What files are placed in the extensions-preference folder?

Missing Ephemeris File lrz5_24: Kilian, 2/14/2001 9:19 am CET

Dear Jackg, what you described might happen, if you move Kairon out of the Kairon folder...for it is not enough to have all those files in the ephemü folder, but also Kairon must be situated in the same folder as that ephemü folder (if it were the desktop folder, both should be there...then the ephemü folder must not be put into the Kairon folder...but it would be more convenient, to put an alias of Kairon on the desktop, but leave the application itself in the Kairon folder, along with the ephemü folder. ((Also, the ephemü folder must not be renamed.)) There is no extensions-preference folder, so no files can be put into such a folder. regards, Kilian

Do you know how to get any PostScript astrological fonts (with their screen fonts) for the Macintosh?

astrological fonts: Kilian, 3/23/2000 3:02 am CET

I have drawn three true-type fonts almost two years ago, I think it will be possible to turn them into postscript, if necessary. But will not find time to do this within the next two weeks...can you wait that long?

astrological fonts: jim smith, 4/26/2000 8:59 pm CET

I have been a professional sign painter for 33 years, and have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is Painting & Printmaking. I enjoy creating fonts and would like to help out others who are having difficulty, finding a way to get a useable astrology symbol to "work" on their computers. I have drawn several astrological fonts for my own use, on my Macintosh computer. I use the "Fontographer" program, and can create them in either True-type or Postcript fonts. I have been trying to find if there is a "standardized" method to assign astrology symbols to their "character number slot" within the character set of the font data. If there is not a standard numbering method for fonts, used by the computer-using astrology community, there need to be some general guidelines set by some astrological committee of authority. I can't find anyone who will even respond to my question. Can anyone give me some answers or perhaps point me in the correct direction, of where, and to whom, I might address this question? I would like to share the fonts I create with all who can utilize them, but currently they are only useable on my computer, within my own programs. If someone can help me find a standard for assigning astrological symbols to font character numbers, I'll gladly offer my fonts as freeware, and hopefully they would work on most astrology applications for the computer, but I need to know what the guidlines are!

astrological fonts: Kilian, 4/26/2000 11:31 pm CET

Hi, people do not respond to your messages, because you have misconfigured your e-mail client by writing your login with three t's. So perhaps you should try again...;-)) I am going to implement a new user friendly standard with the new release of Kairon, which will allow to use my fonts with apples key pad utility or by mere trying. To see how this will work, please go to: http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/~a9408947/letters/letters.html If you want to, I can link your fonts to my homepage so that everybody can find them, and if you want to be 100% compatible with Kairon 3.xx without the users having to adjust their preferences, you will be most welcome to work out the exact key-positions with me, I would appreciate your help on this, as I don't have a real US-Mac! There is something to say about what there should be represented by an astrological font, too. What I have posted here is a bare minimum and I would appreciate any input from astrologers what symbols they want to see in addition. It would also be a good idea to adjust the size of the symbols in Fontographer to a size and position, that they will go together with some corresponding font which looks best with the style shown...so the compatible fonts should be listed in some "read me" file. Well then, I am ready now to await more input on this subject...;-)) ((my fonts are actually planned to being released AFTER this is finished)) Kilian

astrological fonts: Philip Newton, 4/27/2000 9:31 am CET

I think any font should also include the "Anglo-Saxon" version of the glyph for Pluto (the one that looks like a "P" and an "L" in one).

Subject: dissociated aspects: Philip Newton, 3/23/2000 2:06 am CET

should aspects (eg trines) be negated if they are out of element-association?

dissociated aspects: Kilian, 3/23/2000 3:15 am CET

Negation is not a good concept in general.
Personally I am interpreting aspects in three steps:

a) I try to get the meaning of the planets dyed in their signs
b) I try to get the symbolism of the angle
c) I try to put a) and b) together

in really many of the cases the classical rules of interpretation will fail...but the intuitive astrologer shouldn't....;-))
